Rare Vintage Venetian Art Glass Sculpture Depicting Hunting Shark 1960’s/1970’s Era Possibly Murano

Vintage Venetian Art Glass Sculpture depicting a Hunting Shark crafted from smoked grey, black and clear glass on a yellow/amber coloured/tinged wave-shaped base. These decorative sculptures were frequently produced in Italy during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The sculptures were handmade, meaning details and exact colour shades can vary between pieces. These art glass collectibles vary in size, artist attribution, and most importantly, condition. This actual glass sculpture has been extremely well looked after, and we would class this piece as in ‘near-mint’ condition. However, despite extensive research, we cannot make a specific artist/factory attribution. This exact design is most frequently attributed to Murano/Vetreria/Artistica/Maestri/Vetrai or the Formia glass studio. They are occasionally linked to Seguso when finished in specific amber or brown tones. It was crafted using the Sommerso (submerged) technique, featuring an anthracite or smoked grey core encased in thick crystal glass. The yellow or amber tinged glass base is hand-molded into a stylized sea wave or splash, a signature element of this specific production run. The three-fin arrangement below the head is a defining characteristic of this specific vintage Hunting Shark model which seems to have only been produced in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The three pectoral fins are a key identifier for this particular artistic model. Real sharks do not have three pectoral fins, however this stylized artistic interpretation has three pectoral fins, two side ones and one central.
